What does aldehydes smell like?
In perfume language, aldehydic often suggests sparkling, waxy, clean or citrus-like effects above flowers. It can feel almost fizzy, but not every aldehyde smells this way. The named note is an artistic style reference rather than a description of the entire chemical family.

The material behind the impression
Aldehydes are a broad class of compounds with many different smells. Perfumery’s familiar aldehydic accords use selected materials in carefully balanced amounts. The note does not mean soap is present, and a clean association should not be mistaken for a hygiene claim.

Its place in the composition
Aldehydes can lift rich rose, jasmine and ylang-ylang, making a bouquet feel more abstract and expansive. Musk or sandalwood rounds the base. They commonly define an opening impression, though their relationship with the floral heart shapes the whole character.
