What does civet smell like?
Civet-style notes suggest a warm animalic depth that can feel musky, intimate or challenging when isolated. In a balanced perfume the effect may be much quieter, adding richness beneath flowers rather than smelling overtly animalic.

The material behind the impression
Historically civet referred to an animal-derived material. Modern perfumery can reproduce a civet-like effect with synthetic accords. A catalogue note does not establish which materials were used, so neither animal sourcing nor vegan status should be inferred.

Its place in the composition
Civet-like warmth can deepen jasmine, rose and musk, particularly in richer floral structures. Vanilla may soften the effect. It is usually discussed as a base note, but its influence can change the perceived warmth of the whole composition.
