What does davana smell like?
Davana is an unusual aromatic note: herbal, yet often ripe-fruited and liqueur-like. It may suggest apricot, dried fruit or warm wine rather than sharp green leaves. Its richness can feel velvety, which makes it a compelling partner for florals and sweet woods.

The material behind the impression
Davana oil is obtained from Artemisia pallens. The botanical material has a complex aroma, but a perfume’s davana listing does not confirm natural oil or a specific origin. It is distinct from generic fruity notes even when both share a ripe, rounded character.

Its place in the composition
Davana can make apple or rose feel more mature and textured. Osmanthus echoes its apricot-like facets; patchouli gives the fruit an earthy base. It is often used around the heart, joining bright fruit to richer materials rather than acting as a simple sparkling top note.
