What does clary sage smell like?
Clary sage can feel herbal, softly sweet and lightly tea-like, sometimes with a hay or tobacco nuance. It is less straightforwardly savoury than common sage. These softer facets make it useful beside fruit, where it adds texture rather than simply a green top note.

The material behind the impression
Clary sage oil is associated with Salvia sclarea. Different extracts and processing choices alter its balance, and the perfume note may be built with an accord. The botanical identity is distinct from common sage; neither name proves the source or natural content of a finished fragrance.

Its place in the composition
Clary sage often bridges fresh notes and a warmer aromatic heart. Lavender can extend its herbal character, while cherry and rum create a richer contrast. Its role is often to make sweetness more textured, not to provide a literal single-herb fragrance.
