What does coumarin smell like?
Coumarin is associated with freshly cut or drying hay, soft almond-like sweetness and a powdery warmth. It is not simply vanilla. In small amounts it can make aromatic herbs feel rounder without turning a fragrance into a dessert scent.

The material behind the impression
Coumarin is an aromatic compound occurring naturally in materials such as tonka beans and also produced for perfumery. A coumarin note does not prove tonka extract is used. The chemical and the whole botanical extract remain different references.

Its place in the composition
Coumarin is an important bridge between lavender-like freshness and warm bases. Honey and vanilla make it gourmand; woods make it drier. Its powdery persistence is useful in the base, though the soft aromatic impression may be apparent much earlier.
