What does saffron smell like?
Saffron can be dry, warm and faintly leathery, with hay-like and sometimes metallic or medicinal nuances. It is not the same sort of heat as cinnamon or clove. Its subtle strangeness gives floral and woody perfumes a sharper, more textured edge.

The material behind the impression
The culinary spice comes from Crocus sativus stigmas. In perfumery, saffron effects are often built with aroma materials that evoke selected facets rather than using the threads directly. A note does not establish an extract, concentration or agricultural origin.

Its place in the composition
Saffron works between fruit, rose and darker woods. Raspberry adds brightness, leather echoes dryness and oud supplies depth. A saffron accent can make a sweet composition feel less straightforwardly sugary without turning the whole fragrance into a spice perfume.
