What does elemi smell like?
Elemi is a light-footed resin: peppery, citrus-like and aromatic above a softer balsamic body. It can feel fresher than benzoin or labdanum and less overtly smoky than an incense accord. That balance makes it useful between bright top notes and a warm base.

The material behind the impression
Elemi materials are associated with Canarium resins, notably Canarium luzonicum in perfumery. Natural oils and reconstructed impressions can differ. The note does not identify a supplier, exact species or source in the finished fragrance.

Its place in the composition
Elemi adds definition around vanilla and spices. Cardamom echoes its freshness, bergamot its citrus edge and guaiac wood its warmer underside. It often bridges the heart and base rather than serving only as a heavy resin anchor.
